Forgiveness Is Possible: What Joseph’s Story Can Teach Us This Sunday at Lagos Christian Church

In the book of Genesis, we read one of the most moving and raw stories in Scripture—the story of Joseph.
Joseph’s ten brothers sold him into slavery. That’s not a metaphor. They actually sold him. Family betrayal doesn't get much worse than that.
Many of us know what it’s like to experience tension in our families—maybe someone doesn’t speak to you anymore, maybe there’s been bitterness or distance—but to be sold into slavery? That’s real trauma.
And yet, years later, Joseph forgave his brothers. He didn’t just move on—he named his firstborn son Manasseh, which means causing to forget.
It was Joseph’s way of saying, “God has helped me forget the pain of my past.”
In this same way, God treats our sins. When we confess them, He doesn’t hold them over us. Psalm 103:12 says,
“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”
That’s just not poetic; it’s a reality. God forgives and forgets—and He calls us to do the same.
But here’s the thing: many of us walk around still blaming ourselves. We think God is the one accusing us.
But more often than not, it’s our own voice that accuses us. God has already forgiven us and moved on.
At Lagos Christian Church, we’re exploring Joseph's life right now and what it means to live in forgiveness rather than just receive it.
If you’ve been holding on to pain, if you’re wondering whether healing is possible, this Sunday is for you.
